A young couple with two small children, originally from New Zealand, who started a business on the Gold Coast and built it into a successful one. They came to us on referral from previous clients, looking for their first family home.
A large block in Elanora or Currumbin Waters, with a minimum of four bedrooms and no more than twenty minutes from the beach. Unusually, they weren't looking for finished — the husband is a tradesman, and they wanted a home with character they could add value to over the years. A renovator was a feature of the brief, not a compromise in it.
The search ran about four weeks. We began where they'd asked, working through Elanora and showing them a considerable number of properties, but it was the Currumbin Waters pocket they eventually fell for. This home had what the earlier ones hadn't — genuine character, cathedral ceilings, and bones worth putting work into. By the time we walked through it, the husband was already planning the renovation.

Secured under their expected budget, on a large block, four bedrooms, twenty minutes from the beach. Close to every item on the brief, with the renovation ahead of them as something to look forward to rather than endure.
